Every accrediting commission has a published set of “Standards” available on their websites that provides its evaluative criteria for accreditation. To be accredited, an institution must show it meets these standards and that it complies with its accreditor’s relevant policies. In this section we review what an accreditor’s standards and operating policies cover and consider how a board can best benefit from its understanding of them, remembering that what is measured is what is valued.
